Civil preparedness and response
The Swedish Radiation Safety Authority is a civil emergency authority. This means that the Government has assigned us responsibilities that are of particular importance to Sweden’s emergency preparedness and total defence.
Within the field of radiation protection, our role is to be proactive. In the event of a radiological emergency that could harm human health or the environment, we provide guidance and support to other authorities and organisations.
As a civil emergency authority, we help strengthen society’s ability to withstand risks and threats – both in daily life and in times of heightened state of alert or war.
Our work includes advising decision-makers who are responsible for protecting people during a radiological emergency.
